Today marks 28 years since the death of Aliki Vougiouklakis.
Our national star passed away on July 23, 1996, spreading grief throughout Greece.
Her son, Yiannis Papamichael, who honors her memory every year, posted a touching post in the official file he keeps under his mother’s name.
“1996-2024. It has been 28 years since the day you left us. Not a single day goes by without me thinking of you. Nobody has forgotten you, you continue to raise generations with your films and the children whom I have always loved so much see you and admire you! The trisagio took place on Sunday in a closed circle with my wife Eleni and my good friends Nikos and Kostas, as well as Alice’s friend, Deputy Minister of Macedonia and Thrace, Konstantinos Goulikas,” wrote Yiannis Papamichael on Instagram.
In 2021, Yannis Papamichael had stated about his mother, in an interview in the documentary Idols:He never spoiled me. No matter what I did, I felt like it wasn’t enough. And the curse was that I had to get to the top too.“While he had admitted his parents’ divorce:”It was a tough time because I also saw tough things inside the house. When you are 5 or 6 years old and you see your parents holding hands, there are some things that stay in your memory. You are left with a wound and you carry it. Aliki and Dimitris, one was fighting and the other was together again. I also lived beautiful moments, and it was not only the fights. I also toured with them. I went to America in 1985, where they were playing the song “Educating Rita”. Then I felt really good, my father was in love».
