Only one goal has been scored for AEK from the four players used at the top of the attack in 10 league matches. If this is not corrected, it will not be a good year for the union.
If we exclude the match in Crete with OVI, in which AEK looked as if he had never appeared on the pitch, and all the other occasions in which they left points behind, they clearly did themselves a disservice.
This annoying confection – for the love, respect and dedication that this particular man shows to football – that Almeyda allegedly distinguishes European matches from Greece’s matches, dissolves very easily with the reality of the numbers of each match and especially the losers of chances. Which Al-Ittihad scored in matches with Panserikos and Kifisia. Even with Olympiacos in New Philadelphia.
On the one hand, the coach has made it clear several times that he treats all footballers equally – which clearly explains the widespread rotation, but also the risk he takes leading to this decision – on the other hand, there would be no discussion to even exist if The team’s forwards met at least the minimum scoring requirements, based on the chances created by the team.
And since we’re talking about goals, sharing the players who (scored and scored) bore the brunt is, to say the least, disappointing.
AEK scored only one goal from free kicks
After ten league matches, AEK have conceded just one goal from everyone playing at the top of the attack. It was noticed by Pons against Olympiacos.
Livia Garcia has only made two league appearances, though, managing against Panathinaikos and more recently against Kifisia to waste chances that a striker shouldn’t miss in succession.
Because if we add to them what he has missed in matches in Europe so far, the number goes very high. Everyone is aware that he is not the classic killer, but from a striker who finished last season with 18 goals (in all competitions), it is worrying that he has yet to score in a competitive match (six goals).
Zero goals also from Araujo, in 8 league matches, in some of which he was also used at the top of the attack. The Argentine has certainly transformed into something different from the striker of the area during Matias Almeyda’s days on the bench, but there have been several moments when he has been absent from key positions.
AEK did not even score a goal from Dutchman Tom van Wert, who was a regular for Panserikos (missing at least four easy goals due to his usual skill) and OFI (as if he was not on the field).
There must also be some constants
Obviously scoring is also a total business, and a team affair, after all, AEK were the team that highlighted this more than any other last year during the tournament that ended in winning the double. However, it is also intuitive that there are some constants.
Pons is wasting opportunities that were like a piece of cake for him in his first term in the team, and Levi, with his constant “coming in and out” due to injuries and the rare opportunities he wasted in six matches, seems to be suffering psychologically, while the other two when asked to play in the “9.” They looked very nervous in the face of being asked to find the net.
If AEK do not find immediate goals from their attackers, this year will be difficult. In the area of creativity, he remains highly skilled, scoring very high marks for the ability to bring players into key positions to score goals. But someone has to put the ball more consistently and that’s the Achilles heel. The classic scorer is absent. The easy goal does not come in the classic “midfield” stages.
The team doesn’t need a finisher over the age of 20, but if they don’t see Garcia and Ponce (at least) in double figures by the end of the season, they’re certainly not going to accomplish anything.
