They immediately alerted the Coast Guard, who notified a diver who dived at about 7:30 a.m. to retrieve his body.
The man, who was born in 1934, left a bag containing his identity card and a note explaining the reasons for his actions on the side of the dock, while a crutch was also found at the scene.
“Please treat my dead body with due care. I am leaving because I don’t want to burden my children,” the note read.
According to the exclusive information of irafina.gr, the 89-year-old was tied to a wheelchair and then fell into the sea.
A diver found him at the bottom and retrieved him at about 8:15 p.m., when he was found missing one of his legs and in a wheelchair with a prosthetic limb.
The man’s body was handed over to an EKAV ambulance for transport to the mortuary where a post-mortem will be carried out.
