This summer more than 70 fellow citizens drowned in Greek waters within two months.
At least 340 drowning deaths are recorded in Greek waters every year, and this summer did not start with the best omens, as more than 70 bathers lost their lives in less than two months.
In fact, today Sunday, only four people have died in different parts of the country.
According to MEGA across the country, 38 people drowned in June and 35 people died at sea during the period from July 1 to 9.
Who is most at risk?
According to available data, those who died by drowning were:
- Up to 60 years: 10 bathers died,
- Up to age 70: 13 bathers died,
- People over 70 years old: 50 victims of bathers.
The majority are men (46), who seem more vulnerable compared to women (27), while most are Greek (41) and not tourists (32).
Parents with young children should be especially careful, as a second’s distraction can be fatal.
Dead Bath in Larissa
At noon on Sunday, another person lost his life on a beach in Larissa province. In particular, according to onlarissa.gr, a 77-year-old woman fainted on the beach of Platia Ammos. She immediately became a CAR.PA.A. And with a defibrillator they tried to bring her back to life, unfortunately to no avail.
An EKAV ambulance took the unfortunate woman to the Conan Center where she was pronounced dead.
Two elderly people have died in northern Greece
But according to APE-MPE, the tragic report of two elderly people who died at sea while swimming at beaches in northern Greece did not stop there.
The 86-year-old foreigner fainted from the “Pachys” sea area of Thassos at noon. The woman was first given first aid by bathers on the beach and then taken by EKAB ambulance to Prinos Health Center where she was pronounced dead. While an autopsy has been ordered, a preliminary investigation is underway by the Thassos Port Authority.
Also, one person died after drowning in the sea, according to the statement of the Coast Guard. The incident took place on Vrasna Beach. Just after noon, the 81-year-old fainted from the sea and was pronounced dead when he was taken to the Madytos Health Center, despite bathers giving him first aid. An autopsy will reveal the exact cause of his death.
Two also died in Crete
Two more of our people lost their lives in Crete, and two children were in danger of drowning. In particular, according to neakriti.gr, an Italian tourist in Kokkini and a foreigner in Agia Marina died while enjoying their bath, while a 12-year-old boy who was at risk of drowning in Chania’s Georgiopoli is suffocated. and was hospitalized at PAGNI.
At Kokkini Hani Beach, the unfortunate man, aged around 45, was pulled out unconscious. There was a great commotion on the beach. According to information, the bathers pulled the tourists ashore, while the EKAV ambulance was immediately notified. The incident took place at noon today and despite the efforts of the EKAV crew, the Italian tourist did not make it.
It is noteworthy that before the tourist died in Heraklion, Crete yesterday Saturday, a 78-year-old woman in Chania died tragically despite being taken to hospital by an EKAV ambulance.
