Netflix The official trailer has been dropped from Andrew Dominic‘s “BlondeBiography of the NC-17 Championships Ana de Armas Like Hollywood icon Marilyn Monroe. The film, based on Joyce Carol Oates’ bestselling novel, will premiere in competition at the Venice Film Festival.
“Blonde” reimagines Marilyn Monroe’s life, from her tumultuous childhood as Norma Jeane through her rise to stardom and romantic entanglements. The supporting cast includes Bobby Cannavale, Adrien Brody, Julian Nicholson, Xavier Samuel, and Evan Williams.
The subversive movie is one of the most anticipated titles to compete at the Venice Film Festival. Cannes Film Festival president Thierry Frémaux previously said he had been trying to get him into the 2022 lineup but hadn’t been able to come to a compromise with Netflix. The streaming device has not returned to Cannes since 2017 due to the festival’s rule that all competing films must have a theatrical performance in France.
Described by Oates as a feminist film, “Blonde” aims to strike a chord among contemporary audiences. “The way Kennedy treated Marilyn Monroe was not, and still is not unlike the way many powerful men, especially in Washington, D.C., treat all women except their wives,” Oates told Vanity Fair France.
New shots From the movie was released earlier this week, along with confirmation that Cannavale stars in the movie as baseball icon Joe DiMaggio.
“We worked on this movie for hours, every day for about a year,” said de Armas.
