Trade Secretary General Sotiris Anagnostopoulos announced more targeted checks on supermarkets as well as fines on companies that took advantage.
The Secretary General of Trade and Consumer Protection, Sotiris Anagnostopoulos, referred to the new ministerial decision regarding the profit margin cap and the government’s efforts to curb the phenomenon of unfair exploitation.
Speaking to radio station Alpha 989 and Sotiris Besco, Mr. Anagnostopoulos said that the ministry is carrying out more targeted checks on food supermarkets (supermarkets) after identifying products necessary for living.
However, he indicated that he is not removing products, but rather adding some products that were not there.
Meanwhile, as stated by Mr. Anagnostopoulos, the new decision “protects” the fines from appeal to the courts.
He pointed out that “significant fines will be announced for many companies that have benefited from adherence to auto supply chains and achieved significant profits.”
He stressed that the phenomenon of fines and profit has been observed in gas stations recently because they do not adjust fuel prices after the significant decline in the markets.
