Earlier this week, head coach Kevin Stefanski refused to comment on quarterback Baker Mayfield He said during a podcast that he felt it disrespect by brown.
General Manager Andrew Perry held his initial press conference on Friday and was asked to do the same. He had more to say on the matter.
“I think I touched on this earlier, that we were transparent with our intentions [Mayfield’s] Berry said. “Now, that’s what was said, I think We can all understand how Becker is feeling. And sometimes things in the NFL—whether it’s about the team, it’s about the coach, it’s about the player—may not work out. Becker is a competitive and driven youngster who has had success as a quarterback and will continue to have success as a quarterback. So, you definitely understood that.
“In terms of comments or anything like that, I really don’t really care about noise or some sort of outside narrative, so that’s really not a factor. And we’re trying to stay in touch, really, with all of our player representatives, in particular [those] With children with sensitive or unique situations. This is no different. “
Mayfield and his $18.8 million salary for 2022 are currently on Cleveland’s roster. However, Mayfield was not present at Brown’s unofficial voluntary training this week.
Perry hasn’t given much thought about when he thinks Brown might find a business partner for the 27-year-old midfielder – including when asked if he could see Mayfield on the roster for training camp this summer.
“I think, quite frankly, anything about the kids of speculation about the future, after so many months — that’s probably unfair because we recognize that conditions in the NFL are changing,” Perry said. “And quite frankly, my focus was on the draft next week, just because we’re in a week. And all those kinds of bigger list issues that might come up over the next five, six, seven months, I’m going to shift my focus after that.”
Perry also didn’t say whether Brown had engaged in active discussions of Mayfield or whether he thought the 2018 No. 1 public pick market would ignite in the wake of the draft.
