Anthony Hopkins talks about his alcoholism – Happy New Year wishes and heartwarming message

Anthony Hopkins sent his fans a sweet New Year message through a video he posted on Instagram.

In the video, the actor wishes his fans and online friends a Happy New Year, but the day he posted this adorable shot was no coincidence, as on Friday he celebrated 48 years of sobriety, and on December 31 he will celebrate his 86th birthday.

“Hey, Happy New Year to all of you,” the actor said excitedly and continued, “All the partygoers and drinkers are having a good time. Great! Happy New Year, have a great time.”

“If you have a hangover, remember me. On this day 48 years ago, I gave up alcohol.”

“I got help for it and my life changed. 'I'm not jealous because you're having a good time,'” she said, then encouraged people struggling with addiction to seek help.

As reported by the Daily Mail, the actor previously spoke about his journey to sobriety and also shared a video late last year in which he said: “I'm a recovering alcoholic and you're a recovering alcoholic. I know there are people out there who struggle with that.” “In this age of cancellation, hate and non-compromise, children are being bullied.”

Anthony Hopkins has revealed his addiction to alcohol

Speaking to The New York Times in 2020, he recalled the moment in 1975 when he made the decision to resign.

He woke up in a hotel room in Arizona, but he couldn't remember how he got there. “I thought: 'Okay, I've got to stop this because I'm either going to kill someone or I'm going to kill myself.' My life, from that moment on, took on a new meaning.”

“When I asked for help and realized that I was not alone, and that there were thousands of people like me, all my fears began to disappear.”
