With the launch of the annual upgrade to its most advanced smartwatch, the Ultra 2’s design remains unchanged from its predecessor, although the most substantial improvements are internal.
The Ultra 2, like the recently announced Watch Series 9, will be based on Apple’s S9 SiP, which features 5.6 billion transistors and a quad-core neural engine. Here we meet the second generation Ultra Wideband chip, for more accurate positioning even at a distance of centimeters.
The display of the Apple Watch Ultra 2 is much better than the first generation, with a brightness of up to 3000 nits for easy reading of its content outdoors even in strong sunlight as in our country. According to Apple, this is the brightest display ever on an Apple Watch. On the crucial issue of battery life, the company claims that users can expect up to 72 hours of battery life when the device is in low power mode and 36 hours with normal usage. The new watch is more environmentally friendly than the previous watch, as its case is now made of 95% recycled titanium.
While the Ultra 2’s hardware has been upgraded, some of the most notable changes for Apple Watch users this year will come with watchOS 10. The new operating system brings to the company’s watches UI elements, redesigned app icons, and new mapping and cycling features. There’s also a new watch face called Modular Ultra that takes advantage of the larger display, and uses the outer edge to display real-time data like seconds, height, or depth. It offers most of the complications of any Apple digital watch face to be customized for sports, outdoor adventures, and ocean and pool activities.
The new double-tap gesture that we also saw on the Watch S9 will allow users to start and end phone calls more easily as well as navigate the watch’s menus without touching the screen or digital crown.
With the new double-tap gesture, users can easily control Apple Watch Ultra 2 using just one hand and without touching the screen. Users can tap the index finger and thumb of the hand they are wearing the watch together twice to quickly and easily perform many of the most common actions such as starting or stopping a phone call. Double-tapping also opens the Smart Stack from the watch face, and double-tapping again moves widgets into the stack.
Apple Watch Ultra 2 is available for pre-order starting today for $799 and will begin shipping on September 22. It is also expected to arrive in our country during the month.
