Apple: Unveils the MacBook Pro with an M3 chip

Apple presented a renewed series of 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pros, including new chips from the M3 family, manufactured on 3nm technology, at an event titled “Scary Fast”.

The new chipset is based on advanced 3nm manufacturing technology and handles graphics processing more efficiently, according to Apple.

The basic model has eight main cores, while the graphical model has 10 cores. The company also announced the high-end M3 Pro and M3 Max chipsets as part of a “Scary Fast” event, which was simulcast on Apple’s website and online video services such as YouTube.

The new MacBook Pro models, which were also unveiled at the aforementioned event, will work with the new processors. The company announced a low-cost $1,599 model with the standard M3 chip, as well as high-end versions powered by the M3 Pro and M3 Max.

The new chip technology will make the new laptops more powerful while maintaining a 22-hour battery life, according to Apple. The tech giant also launched a version of its M3-powered 24-inch iMac all-in-one desktop. ot.gr reports.

The company’s domestic semiconductor business — known as Apple Silicon — has become a valuable asset. Since converting its own chips from Intel components. In 2020, Apple saw a sharp rise in sales of its Mac devices, fueled by a broader increase in technology spending during the pandemic.

But in recent quarters, Mac revenues have begun to decline again and competition has intensified. The M3 release aims to help restore Apple’s industry supremacy and get the Mac business back on track. PC sales are expected to rise about 5% in the holiday fourth quarter, with revenue rising 5.5% in the fiscal year that began this month, according to data compiled by Bloomberg.

3nm technology

The move to the M3 marks the first time Apple — or any other mass-produced PC maker — has moved to 3nm technology. This process consumes more transistors, pushing more technology into a narrower space. These chips are designed to boost performance while saving battery life.

By using in-house chips, Apple can design its hardware and software together to create a better overall user experience. The Cupertino, California-based company announced that its flagship MacBook Pro is now 11 times faster than Intel’s fastest laptop.

The M3 chip is 35% faster than the M1 chip for typical computing tasks and 65% better at graphics. The M3 Pro has four more core processing cores, including a 12-core design. It also has 18-core graphics. The M3 Max increases the number of cores in both the processor and graphics to up to 16 and 40 cores, respectively.

The new Macs don’t have any major new features other than new chips. But the MacBook Pro offers 20% more brightness — for content without high dynamic range colors — as well as a new “Space Black” color option. Bloomberg News previously reported about the new Macs and processors.

Aside from the new lower-cost MacBook Pro, Apple has kept pricing mostly in line with previous models. The iMac continues at $1,299, the M3 Pro MacBook Pro at $1,999, and the M3 Max MacBook Pro at $2,499. The high-end MacBook Pro, fully equipped with a 16-inch display, 40 graphics cores, 8TB of storage and 128GB of memory, costs $7,199, according to Apple’s online store.

The processor market is heating up

Apple’s announcement comes on the heels of other signs that the computer processor market is on the rise. Intel, a former Apple partner, gave an upbeat forecast last week that sent shares soaring.

Nvidia Corporation and Advanced Micro Devices Corporation. The company is working on new processors based on technology from Arm Holdings Plc. And Qualcomm. It unveiled a laptop processor last week that it described as faster than Apple’s M2 processor.
