Apple has issued a major warning to all 1.46 billion iPhone users that appears in the middle of the Google Chrome browser.
The tech giant has posted billboards around the world promoting its Safari search app, calling it a “truly private browser.”
Although the ad doesn’t mention Google Chrome by name, it is the most downloaded search browser for smartphones – beating Safari by more than two million.
The ad has been spotted in cities like San Francisco, London and Paris, where people have seen it on billboards, public transportation and public buildings.
Apple’s ads appear to warn people against using Google, which has faced repeated controversy over its Chrome browser retaining cookies and search information.
“Google revealed earlier this year that it collects your data if you use Google Chrome, even if you use incognito mode,” Jake Moore, global security advisor for cybersecurity firm ESET, told Forbes.
“Personal data is very valuable to businesses, and when terms and conditions are so difficult to understand, it may be easier for users to allow businesses to collect data at will.”
However, a Google spokesperson told DailyMail.com that the company strives to keep people’s data safe by default and ensure users can control when and how their data is used in Chrome to personalize their browsing experience.
