Easter of agony for the close relatives of the three wounded in Leonidio in Arcadia, after “Christ is Risen.” A firework explosion outside the church of Agios Vasilios caused chaos at the scene of the horrific accident. All three youths collapsed in a pool of blood. Relatives and friends called an ambulance. All were taken to hospital, one in critical condition with burns.
According to newsit.gr, the accident occurred when a box of 30 fireworks caught fire in the jacket pocket of one of the injured. The badly beaten 27-year-old was transferred from Leonidio to Gennimatas Hospital in Athens and doctors are trying to stabilize his condition.
Two others were injured in the firecracker explosion. A 28-year-old man and a 30-year-old man who were taken to Evangelismos appear to have suffered minor injuries. His condition is not critical, but he remains in the hospital as doctors need to be sure before discharging him.
Another person was taken by ambulance to the Leonidio Health Center for first aid and was released a short time later without serious injuries.
The police were also informed about the incident. The youths apparently bought the crackers online and efforts are on to trace where they came from.
