Hundreds of members of extra-parliamentary left-wing organizations and citizens staged a rally and march in the port of Piraeus today, demanding full accountability for the Attica Group and insisting on “this crime” for the murder of 36-year-old Antonis Karyotis. Don’t forget”.
The march started from the port gate where the unfortunate incident took place and marched towards the Ministry of Shipping, demanding to meet Minister Miltos Varvitsiotis, who yesterday made unacceptable statements about the incident – although he backed down shortly after under pressure from the outcry.
“Milto Varvitsiotis, listen carefully, the blood of Antonis will haunt you”, “In Praeus, this is not a bad time, now let the company take charge”, “Forward people, do not bow your heads, the only way is resistance and struggle”, “Shipowners’ profits kill people’s struggle” will be shown” as the protestors raised a few slogans and issued a notice to passersby and commuters.
Clarifying that “people will save people”, they demanded not to be caught by the government and the media.
Protest rally at Souda port
Hundreds of Chanians in the commercial port of Souda demonstrated their strong opposition outside the entrance of the passenger ferry Eleftherios Venizelos, which was scheduled to depart for Piraeus at 10:00 p.m.
Those gathered are protesting the death of 36-year-old Antonis Kariotis from Agios Nikolaos, which they consider a criminal act and demand immediate action and immediate intervention of justice. The protesters did not allow trucks, passenger cars, two-wheelers and passengers to enter the ferry to travel to Praias. However, the entry ban did not generate any reaction or complaints from drivers and passengers giving a global reaction to the young man’s tragic death and conditions. Officers of the Coast Guard were stationed at the entrance to Souda port and on the ship’s catapult to prevent protesters from entering the ship’s garage and decks. It is now unknown whether the ship will proceed normally and the citizens will leave for the 22.00 departure with the ship loaded.
According to APE-MPE, if the protestors leave by 10:00, the crew accepts the delay of the ship by more than an hour.
Citizens wrote the slogan “Dripping Blood” on a ship.
