A 17-year-old high school student from the Piraeus area was one of two criminals who attacked a police officer in Monastiraki last March, according to authorities. The juvenile, who was completely unknown to law enforcement, was booked wearing a helmet and surgical mask, a black top and gray pants.
A review of the videos showed the youth approaching the patrol car and striking the passenger inside with his hands. He then attacked a second police officer who was trying to get out of the patrol car. He hit the back of his head. As incidents took place in other parts of Athens that day, police officers from the State Security Division studied the video of the attack and compared it to others.
According to the data they collected and handed over to the court, the 17-year-old allegedly participated in the incidents on Fililinon Street at the expense of police officers and damaged a bank ATM on Mitropolios Street. Finally, a man with the same characteristics was recorded attacking police officers in front of the Parliament building. A search of his home revealed the clothes he was wearing on the day of the attack.
The second person booked in the attack against the patrol car, a 40-year-old man, appears to have acted alone and not as part of a group, authorities said. In fact, his facial features were not obscured and he wore a red jacket and nearsighted glasses. Despite inquiries and searches by police, the 40-year-old was never found.
