For the past few days, seismologists have been on high alert as epicenters have surrounded Attica.
Although most of the hundreds of earthquakes recorded were below 3 degrees on the Richter scale, the upheaval observed in various areas around Attica did not allow for complacency in the seismic community.
Papadopoulos: The need for prevention and preparedness
Gerasimos Papadopoulos, director of research at the Geodynamic Institute of the National Observatory of Athens, has a common position, and he points out the following:
“Attica has been surrounded by epicenters for the last 5 days. 5 eruptions were simultaneously activated at Xylokastro, Hydra, Lavrio, Thebes, Mantoudi. Hundreds of earthquakes, 12 magnitudes ranging from 3.0 to 3.8. Maybe it’s a coincidence, maybe not. In either case, constant prevention and preparedness is required.”

Another earthquake was felt in Attica this afternoon.
In particular, at 17:46, seismographs of the Geodynamic Institute recorded a magnitude 3.2 earthquake, which was felt in many parts of the basin.
According to the Geodynamic Institute’s revised solution, the epicenter was 6 kilometers north-northeast of Agia Marina Lavriotiki, while the focal depth was 12 kilometers.
Another magnitude 3 earthquake was reported in the same area early on Thursday (28/9).
Celentis: A 4.8 magnitude earthquake is likely in Corinthiakos
Last Wednesday, the well-known seismologist Akis Tselentis posted a possible earthquake in the induced zone in the sea north of Xylokastro.
In particular, the director of the Geodynamic Institute said, “This region has produced series in the past that corresponded to a maximum magnitude of 4.8R. I think this is possible.”

“good evening
Microseismicity offshore N. of Xylogastro continues this 24 hours (see map). This zone has previously yielded sequences with maximum magnitudes sometimes corresponding to 4.8R. I think this is possible.
But it is true that we are talking about Anath. Corinthian has a seismic history and trends are concentrated in this period, we must be careful.
Geodynamic has thickened its network in the region and has two state-of-the-art radon stations that it monitors on a 24-hour basis. Geodynamic collaborates with all university seismological laboratories with OASP for optimal use of measurements within the framework of the National Seismological Network.
You can follow the evolution of the array in real time from the Geodynamic website.

No reason please don’t panic!
