Josh Taylor, 23, who was having a good time with his friends on the beach of Bribie Island in Australia, died tragically.
The young man died when he fell into a large hole believed to have been dug to roast a pig, according to ABC News. Josh was buried in the sand and no one was able to dig him out and save him.
“Unfortunately, the injuries he suffered were too severe for him to overcome.”
A friend said the unlucky 23-year-old was standing on a chair above the large hole when the sand collapsed beneath his feet, according to News.com.au.
Queensland Parks and Wildlife rangers were among the first to arrive and performed CPR on Taylor before rescue helicopters arrived.
Queensland Police said he was airlifted to Princess Alexandra Hospital where he eventually died on Thursday.
“Unfortunately, his injuries were too serious for him to overcome,” his family said in a statement. Taylor’s family added in a statement: “Somehow we will find a way to overcome this terrible tragedy.”
Queensland Police said detectives were investigating further and believed there may be “a number of people who were present who have not yet spoken to police”.
