The decision to close the Athens-Thessaloniki highway was taken by police late at night due to heavy weather and many immobilized vehicles.
In particular, the national road, as it was known, was closed to both traffic streams from the heights of Lamia to Caterini.
Roadside assistance vehicles and emergency vehicles are excluded.
Water has reached the island in parts of the National Highway.
112 was activated to stop traffic on PATHE with a related message stating the following: “By order of the @hellenicpolice, the #PATHE highway is closed from #Lamia to #Katerini due to the development of dangerous weather phenomena”
After the Moskohori toll road, on the way to Athens, the national road turns into a river with high water reaching the divider.
