Because it will go all the way

Because it will go all the way

Written by Kostas Stupas

If one observes Ankara’s leadership in recent months, one will see a persistent insistence on projecting Greece as a country that violates international law, has revisionist visions toward Turkey and behaves aggressively…

In fact, Turkey blames Greece for everything it does.

This cannot be aimed at anything other than preparing international public opinion for possible action against Greece.

This is what Recep Tayyip Erdogan tried a few days ago in Prague in his speech during the summit, he tried the same a few days ago at the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

The Greek government, having “read” well the intentions and tactics of the prime minister, intervened and spoiled the Turkish narrative in both cases.

Most analysts of international developments interpret the aggressive rhetoric of the Erdogan regime as a move targeting the interior in light of the upcoming elections.

That is why they came to the conclusion that the risk of any movement that would lead to involvement with Greece is minimal.

They overlook that Ankara is systematically appealing to international public opinion.

Another reason international analysts see little risk of getting involved is the fact that Turkey already has two open fronts on its borders with Iraq and Syria. No sane leader will open a third in a sea field as the enemy seems to be well prepared and may also have surprises in store…

What analysts of international developments fail to take into account is that leaders like Erdogan and Putin, who rule authoritarianly with no institutions to check at home, usually have a distorted view of reality.

They believe what they are told by the “entourage” who are in authoritarian regimes as loudspeakers for what the dictators themselves say.

Moreover, both Putin and Erdogan believe in themselves in the “fairy tale” that they sell to their compatriots. It is the story of an emerging regional power that can sit at one table with China and the United States and participate in the redistribution of the life of influence…

Autocratic leaders like Erdogan and Putin remind us of Hitler and Mussolini because they seem to be able to move forward.

Hitler, even when the war was lost, was holed up in Berlin and preparing counterattacks with already disbanded armies, believing that he could turn the war…

Nationalists, religious people and the general public of narrow-minded people besides having a high opinion of themselves, believe that their nation has some supernatural qualities that make it special…

They usually do not have an objective assessment of reality and consider that what they are doing is the fulfillment of some plan for a higher will for themselves, their class or their nation.

These are just delusions of psychopaths…

Because the “neighbor” has demonstrated these characteristics for so many years, logical strategic moves aimed at demonstrating sufficient deterrence do not matter much in the decisions he will make.

He is determined and is looking for an opportunity…
