Nintendo President Shodaro Furukawa said that the next generation Nintendo Switch console will be officially announced “during the current fiscal year,” a position that sets the Japanese giant’s deadline of March 31, 2025 for rumors that have already been circulating an official announcement in the first quarter of 2025.
Furukawa indicated that next June, the company will hold an event called Nintendo Direct, during which the game catalog for the second half of 2024 will be presented, but he was keen to clarify that there will be no mention of the successor to the Nintendo Direct game. Nintendo Switch in this demo.
Meanwhile, Nintendo forecasts that Switch console sales will slow, with the Japanese company estimating that it will ship 13.5 million Switch consoles this year, compared to 15.7 million in the previous fiscal year. Net profits for the current year are expected to decline by 39%, while the decline in revenues is expected to reach 19%.
Sales of Switch consoles saw a significant decline from their peak in 2021, while the OLED model – the newest version of the nearly ten-year-old console – saw a slight 1.1% increase in sales compared to last year. However, the number of platform users is still very good, with Nintendo talking about 123 million players between April 2023 and March 2024, which is “the highest number recorded since the launch of the Nintendo Switch.”
However, Nintendo has not given up on the current generation of Switch consoles. The company says in its expectations that it will try to provide “not just one system per home, but more or even one system per person.”
