However, no one can accuse the Greek Academy Awards of politics or … division. “Behind the Shadows”, i.e. the best local film From this season, the Iris Awards of the Hellenic Film Academy, which were presented on Tuesday night in a tight ceremony, were presented with enthusiasm by Leila Paklissi and Natasa Xindafiloni.
Ten statuettes were won by the feature film heroine Asimina Broedros, who took to the stage again and again after being honored, among other things, for screenplay and direction, as well as for best film of the year.
Protagonist Stathis Stamoulakatos also won the award for the lead male role, while Christos Kontogeorgis and Dina Michailidou (both from Thimonies) did the same for supporting roles. On the other hand, the first prize for women (quite rightly) went to Eleni Coquido’s masterpiece of “The Black Stone” by Spyros Iacovides, while a total of four awards, all in artistic categories, went to “Broadway” by Christos Masalas.
Finally, from the rest of the ceremony, one deserves my emphasis on two positions: that of the President of the Academy, Lefteris Charitou, who said “we are here an ecosystem of culture, not just a group or a family”; , a reflection on (award-winning) director Thanassis Neofotisto, who stated that “as a gay person, I am concerned about the rise of the far-right in the last election”.
