Bernard Hill: The great actor is dead

The actor died at the age of 79 Bernard Hillknown for his roles In Titanic and Lord of the Rings.

He was played by the British actor Captain Edward Smith In the 1997 Oscar-winning film.

Another important role for him was that of King Theoden In the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

His distinguished role was that of Yossar Hughes in the 1982 drama series. The Boys of Blackstaff.

His most recent success was Wolf Hall on BBC 2.

The actor was due to return to television screens in the second series of The Responder, a BBC drama starring Martin Freeman, and was due to appear at Liverpool Comic-Con this week, with the event announced on Twitter.

“We are devastated to hear of the passing of Bernard Hill. A great loss. We are thinking of his family at this very sad time and wish them strength.” The post said.

The saying “a short job”

Hill was born in Blakely, Manchester on 17 December 1944, and grew up in a Catholic mining family and studied at what is now the Manchester School of Drama.

After small roles in I, Claudius and the BBC series Hard Labour, Hill’s breakthrough role came in 1979, playing a working-class man pushed to the edge by the brutality of the British welfare state in The Black Stuff. Three years later he reprized his role in the series’ sequel Boys From the Black Stuff.

His character’s catchphrase “gizza job” became widely known to British television audiences.

Film roles followed, including Gandhi, Mountains of the Moon, Scallagrig, and Madagascar Knife (1995).

In the 1990s, Hill’s presence in Hollywood continued to grow, with major roles in films such as The Ghost and the Darkness, alongside Val Vilmer and Michael Douglas.
