A dangerous scene in the movie “The Mummy” almost cost its star Brendan Fraser dearly!
The incident was revealed by the Oscar-nominated actor himself during an appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show. Brendan Fraser said he “accidentally drowned” during a scene in the movie where he was suspended from a rope.
“I was touching my toes as best I could because I was hanging from the rope,” said Fraser. “Steven (Sommers, the film’s director) ran up and said, ‘Hey, it doesn’t really look like he’s drowning.'”
The production team shot another take.
Fraser said: “The camera started recording and I was on my toes and the guy who was holding the rope above me pulled a little more and my toes came out and I had nowhere to go but to get off.
So he would withdraw and I would come down. Then the next thing I saw was my elbow in my ear, the world was awry and there was grit in my teeth.”
The stuntman in the movie was quick to bring on Frasier. When he did, he said to the actor, “Congratulations, you’re in the club—the same thing happened to Mel Gibson in Braveheart.”
