A Bulgarian publication says the Turks are blocking a major NATO exercise in Greece by challenging Athens’ jurisdiction over the FIR.
It is to be recalled that a large exercise called “Ramstein Flag 24” is scheduled to take place from September 30 to October 11 with the participation of 14 countries.

Ramstein Flag 24 is NATO’s largest air exercise, expected to involve more than 140 aircraft, personnel and assets from 14 NATO countries.
According to the plan, specific A number of Turkish F-16 fighter jets are expected to visit Andhra Pradesh and participate in training demonstrations in various areas of Athens FIR.
However, Ankara’s standard policy is not to hand over flight plans to Greek authorities, as refusing to recognize an area under the Athens FIR’s jurisdiction creates obstacles.
Preparations are nearing completion, and although the first arrival of personnel and aircraft at the 117th Fighter Wing at Andravida is expected in about 40 days, the issue of submission, verification and approval of flight plans has yet to be resolved.
In 2022, Greece, as the host country, withdrew its invitation to Turkey during NATO’s Tiger Meat exercise, due to Turkey’s strong illegal behavior at that time in the Aegean Sea.
