Fans of the popular Call of Duty series are disappointed, as the latest game released did not meet their expectations.
Also, the newest Call of Duty game (the first since Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard), Modern Warfare III, didn’t do well in reviews, with the press panning it, giving it very low scores.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 – why did they give such low ratings in the reviews?
Press reviews indicate the lack of originality of the new Call of Duty game compared to its predecessor, as they talk about a game that is almost identical to the previous one, without new ideas.
Many media outlets also spoke critically about Modern Warfare III’s new missions, which are more “open” and allow the player to choose their approach.
Although in theory this design seems suitable for such a game, in practice, as many critics write, not enough work has been done, and therefore these tracks look superficial, hastily prepared, without theatrical and action scenes. Do not forget.
There are also many fans who wrote their comments online, saying that the new Call of Duty is too much like an expansion of its predecessor (DLC) and not a complete game that can stand on its own.
Many also point out the short duration of the campaign, which reaches 4-5 hours to reach the end. Some reviewers also point out the new game’s script, saying it’s uninteresting and doesn’t have enough time to “unfold.”
The lowest rating for a game from the Call of Duty series in the new Modern Warfare 3 game
For reference, on Metacritic, which combines scores from audiences and critics to produce averages, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III received a score of 53/100, in its version for the PS5 console, with 37 reviews (we mention this version because it received the largest number of reviews ).
It currently has an average audience rating on Metacritic of 1.6/10, with 557 reviews. And on other platforms Like steamUser ratings are very low (28% of user reviews, out of a total of 3,265, are currently positive).
Overall, this is the lowest-rated game in the history of the series by a wide margin. After all, even games in the series that didn’t do well ended up between 70-80 on Metacritic scores. Last year’s Modern Warfare 2 received a 75/100 on its PS5 version with a user rating of 4.8/10.
However, it should be noted that Metacritic user ratings tend to be overrated, by standards that sometimes do not depend on the quality of the game in question. Also, with Modern Warfare 3 just released (November 10), it’s still too early to tell what the final outcome will be.
However, in this case it seems, from the large number of low scores and negative reviews it received from the press, that Modern Warfare III was not really satisfactory with its content.
For example, some reviews write about the campaign:
- “ […] A far cry from everything that once made the franchise exciting.”ribbed
- “[…] “Commits the greatest sin possible in a thriller: It’s boring.”IGN
- “[…] Rush to Market combines poorly designed open areas, frustrating linear quests, and a meaningless story” –Eurogamer
Modern Warfare 3’s campaign wasn’t as satisfying, but multiplayer remains a key part
In fact, the first tracks in Modern Warfare III lose their focus and make the player move from one point to another, without doing interesting missions.
Then, mainly in the second half of the campaign, there are some missions that, despite borrowing heavily from previous games in the series, have interesting locations and overall atmosphere.
Some missions, as usual, consist mainly of stealth, while others are more on the cutting edge. However, the weapons are numerous and different enough from each other, while the control, graphics, sound and action remain top-notch.
Of course, since most people play Call of Duty in online multiplayer mode, negative impressions of the campaign are not expected to significantly impact sales of the title.
After all, there are enough reviews to suggest that the multiplayer portion is worth it, but the overall “package” that Modern Warfare III offers falls short of expectations.
