Callisto Protocol Creator Explains Why He’s ‘Pushing’ the Game

Its creator Callisto Protocol, Glenn Scofieldgave a new interview and addressed the game’s modest launch, among other things. In case you didn’t know, the survival horror title didn’t do well when it was released, as it was plagued by a number of technical issues – and not only – that affected its commercial trajectory as well.

Talking to Dan Allen Gaming, its former CEO Striking Distence Studios He said that the game suffered in quality when it was released because Krafton (the publisher) was in a rush to get it to market. So, it seems that the creator himself wanted more time (about 3.5 months) to complete his vision, but unfortunately it didn’t work out.

I wanted about 3-4 more months to work on the game. That led me to believe that would be the case. So, in October or September 2021, I was told, “You’ll find the time, just don’t regret it.” That’s what they often told me. Don’t regret it… just put (him and his team) everything you want into the game.

The creator completed his statements as follows:

So, I spent that Christmas break sketching. I was thinking about some ideas and then January came and some people at Krafton said, “No, you’re bringing it in December 2022.” I immediately thought, “That’s not possible because I wanted an extra 3-4 months.” But since they wanted it that way, I had to hurry up and do it in less time, which meant more people on the team would be working.

Glenn Schofield said the game’s development was also “affected” by Covid, with around 200 of the studio’s developers falling ill, while other developers left because they found better pay in other jobs.

We were devastated. There were times when the entire VFX department was out or the animation department. Plus, in 2021 we had a massive turnover. 49 people left because they found better jobs. 2021 was the worst year in my development career.

Schofield was the creator of the legendary Dead Space series and founded Striking Distance in 2019 with the goal of creating a survival horror game in the PUBG universe. Eventually, that project was changed and the Callisto Protocol you know was born.
