Prince Harry was furious at his father’s refusal, now King Charles III, to include Meghan Markle on the British royal family’s payroll, a new book has claimed.
As royal editor Robert Jobson reports in his book Ours, Charles’ response to the “standing prince” – as Harry famously calls himself in his book – came shortly after the latter revealed his plans to marry the American actress.
Prince William asked Harry: “Are you sure, Harold?” And before he could recover from his older brother’s backlash, the then-monarch was quick to add that he could not include Meghan on the royal family’s payroll, already strained by the addition of Camilla and William’s ever-expanding family.
“And that pissed Harry off,” Jobson wrote, according to an excerpt from his book obtained by the Daily Mail.
Charles’ feud with Harry
Charles’ “bombshell” sparked one of the first quarrels between father and son. Charles stopped answering Harry’s calls when he cursed him and insisted on his request. “When the Queen asked Charles why he refused, he told her it wasn’t a bank,” says Jobson, who also wrote two books about the late Princess Diana.

Meghan and Harry have the audacity: what they’re asking for for King Charles’ coronation
It is estimated that all the incidents, which Harry and Meghan have complained about publicly – such as the latter’s fight with Kate Middleton on the eve of her wedding – have been magnified in their minds by Charles’s refusal to accept America as a plane. Working member of the royal family.
The book claims that Harry had a strong feeling that his brother did not approve of Meghan and saw their relationship as a “stormy romance” that would last for a while. On Megan’s part, Kate was considered “distant” on their first meeting, a situation that contributed to the strain of their relationship over the next few years as brides.
The Queen’s displeasure with Harry and Meghan’s public complaints
Even Queen Elizabeth, Jobson argues, has grown frustrated over time with Harry and Meghan’s public complaints, particularly after their March 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey, in which they accused the royal family of not accepting Meghan due to racism.
The Queen described the behavior of the Sussexes as “rather insane”, says Jobson, and later concluded that Harry’s love for his wife had “obscured his judgment”.
