Eleni Minigaki was invited by Christos Lolis, who spoke about the upcoming series Famagusta in the new season in Mega.
When asked by Eleni Menegaki about the series and the reasons that prompted him to say “yes” to the role, Christos Lawless said: “Andreas Georgiou and Collis Nicolaou told me that this would be released in 24, that is, 50 years later.” Since the invasion, “it’s something that’s very much about us, about our home, our country, our families, it’s something very personal, it hurts us a lot, we want to pay attention to it,” he said at first, adding: “When you feel that the other has already put a very big part of his heart into it, It can’t help but arouse your curiosity.”
Describing more about the series’ plot, Christos Lawless noted: “It’s the story of a family before the invasion. They were moving back and forth. We see how they are now, and we see how they were then.” As for his role, he says: “I am going to Cyprus to make a documentary about the invasion… My role is Greek, who grew up in London and was hurt by that.”
Filmed in Cyprus, Athens and London, “Famagusta” tells the story of a hard-line journalist (Christos Lawless) from England who travels to Cyprus for a documentary on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Turkish invasion. What he doesn’t know is that in the turbulent July of 1974, when he was still an infant, he was separated in Famagusta from his real mother and a family who never forgot him.
Speaking about the traumatic events of the invasion, Christos Lawless noted that the series depicts the way people’s memories change. “Memory can change color, change shape,” he says. “I feel that this series aspires to keep the memory alive. So that we do not lose the memory of the people of the island, whether they are Greek or Turkish. So that the memory is not lost, so that the matter does not happen again.”
