To the tune of the traditional Thracian music that served his whole life and in an atmosphere of great emotion, the funeral of Chronis Aydonidis was held today. The funeral service for the pioneering teacher and performer, who “departed” at the age of 95, was held on the morning of October 25 in the Holy Assumption Church in Vrilisi, Attica, in the presence of the artist’s loved ones.
Artists say their final farewell
The final “farewell” to Chronis Aydonidis, who devoted himself to teaching, preserving, disseminating and recording the musical traditions of Thrace, was said by his people, many Thracians and ordinary people, as well as by artists, such as Giorgos Dalaras and Pantlis. Thalassinos, with whom he collaborated, while wreaths were laid by, among others, the Municipal Music Artistic Society Domnas Samiou (“Bon Voyage”), George and Anna Dallara (“To Our Beloved Time”), the Mayor of Vrilisios Konstantinos Vafiadis, the Union of Greek Singers (“Good Journey Teacher”), and the union of Panthraki and Lakis Chalkias, with the touching letter “To the Beautiful Nightingale”.
The birds laughed at me
In an emotional atmosphere, people in traditional costumes, including musicians, singers and others, accompanied the great Chronis Idonidis to his final residence with songs from his special homeland, Thrace, which he loved very much, such as “The birds laughed at me.” Applause and the word “Immortal”.
