The UltraSharp U2724D and U2724DE also have something that will please gamers because they are the first monitors to feature an IPS Black panel with a 120Hz refresh rate.
IPS Black panels are actually manufactured by Korean company LG and were first announced during CES 2022. As the name suggests, the cutting-edge IPS technology provides deeper black reproduction, and is advertised as “35% deeper blacks than current IPS products, making Doubles the contrast ratio. Putting some numbers to this claim, the contrast ratio of a typical IPS screen would be around 1000:1, but IPS Black panels go up to 2000:1. LG says its panel provides, among other things, improved viewing angles and boosts color volume in low-hue areas.
The first Dell monitors with IPS Black display panel technology were the 4K UltraSharp models, which came in 27- and 32-inch sizes. At the beginning of the year, the company released the Dell UltraSharp 32 with 6K resolution, which impressed us.
While the first IPS Black displays were limited to a maximum refresh rate of 60Hz, the new 27-inch U2724D and U2724DE can operate at up to 120Hz. However, the new models have a lower resolution since it’s not a 4K panel, but rather a 1440p one.
The UltraSharp U2724D and U2724DE have the same specifications and differ only in the connectivity they offer and, of course, the price. The Dell UltraSharp U2724D offers one DisplayPort 1.4 input, one DP output, one HDMI input, one audio output, USB Type-C data connection with 15W PD, and a USB hub with one USB-C port for 3x USB connections. Those looking for improved connectivity should check out the U2724DE. The extra “E” means this monitor has an additional Thunderbolt 3 port, which offers DP Alt mode, 15W power delivery, an Ethernet port and KVM functionality.
The Dell UltraSharp U2724D and U2724DE cost $479 and $649 respectively and are expected to appear soon in our country.
