With a special interest in solar physics, in particular understanding solar radiation changes and their effects on Earth’s climate
doctor. Theodosios Hatjistergos of Emmanuel, completed his degree in Physics with a specialization in Astrophysics from the Department of Physics of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. His undergraduate thesis focused on studying the atmosphere of Saturn’s moon Titan using data from the space mission Cassini–Higgins.
He then did postgraduate studies at Queen Mary University of London, England. His master’s thesis, “Satellite Perturbations on Planetary Rings”, investigated the effects of satellite interactions on Saturn’s F ring and the possibility that they lead to the formation of new satellites.
In 2017, Dr. Hadjestergoss received his PhD from the Max Planck Institute for Solar System Research and Georg August University in Göttingen, Germany. Doctoral research under the supervision of Professor Sami K. Solanki and Dr. Natalie A. Krivova, who focused on analyzing historical observations of the Sun and long-term changes in solar radiation and activity.
doctor. Hadjestergos is a postdoctoral researcher in the field of heliophysics at the Max Planck Institute for Solar System Research and previously also worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the Rome Observatory of the Italian National Institute of Astrophysics (INAF).
Dr. Hadjestergos has a keen interest in solar physics, particularly in understanding changes in solar radiation and their effects on Earth’s climate. His research revolves around the analysis of historical observations of the Sun, the study of weather phenomena in space, the reconstruction of solar radiation, and the study of long-term changes in solar activity.
In 2022 he was awarded the Outstanding Young Scientist Award by the Scientific Committee for Terrestrial Heliophysics (SCOSTEP) https://scostep.org/awards/ which is awarded every two years, while his doctoral thesis was selected by the German Physical Society (DPG) As one of the 4 best PhD dissertations in all physics-related subjects for that year.
doctor. Hadjistergos has published more than 20 articles in peer-reviewed scientific journals, including notable publications in The Astrophysical Journal, Heliophysics, Astronomy and Astrophysics, The Journal of Space Weather and Climate, and Frontiers in Astronomy and Space Science. while also frequently serving as a reviewer for other scholarly publications.
In addition to his publications, Dr. Hadjestergos has presented his research findings at numerous conferences and seminars. He has lectured at prestigious events such as the Space Climate Symposium, The Solar System and Climate, and the German Physical Society (DPG) meeting.
doctor. Hatjistergos has participated in many international collaborations.
This includes science teams from the International Space Science Institute (ISSI) and collaborations with the INAF Observatory in Rome, the Meudon Observatory, the University of Oulu, the Coimbra Observatory, the Kodaikanal Observatory and many more.
While he is also the Principal Investigator of a Science Subject Group to exploit data from the new Aditya-L1 SUIT satellite mission.
Participate in public outreach activities on scientific issues, such as Nacht des Wissens (Night of Science) in Göttingen and Notte Europea dei Ricercatori (Night of European Researchers) in Rome.
He contributed a popular short text to the book “European Helioscience”. https://est-east.eu/the-science-of-est
While his famous text discussing misinformation in the Greek media about the effect of the Sun and the sun on the Earth’s climate was presented by the Greek Hoax website.
