However, the Electronic Software Association (ESA) itself seems reluctant to confirm the cancellation of the entire event. The ESA told Engadget that it is currently in discussions with ESA members and other stakeholders regarding E3 2024 and future years, and that no final decisions have been made on events at this time.
It’s unclear what this means for E3 itself. ESA has not held a live trade show since the COVID-19 pandemic led to the cancellation of E3 2020, but in 2021 it held an online-only event. Neither a live or digital version of the show was returned in 2022. When the show was canceled again in 2023, ESA President and CEO Stanley Pierre-Louis told GamesIndustry that the trade show may need to change to survive. He said that E3 will be redefined to ensure that it meets the needs of companies that want to promote themselves on this global platform, which means redefining the way people interact with E3.
At the same time, at the same time (beginning of June) where E3 is being held, another event about gaming is gaining more attention. Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest unofficially kicked off the summer update for gamers, with a two-hour presentation as well as one-on-one presentations from big names in the field like Microsoft and Ubisoft.
