Calliope Spanou, a former ombudsman, appears as the dominant minister of the interior
After the dissolution of parliament ahead of the May 21 election, Kalliopi Spanu will replace Magis Voridis as interior minister, according to Megaville Live News.
At 11 a.m. on Saturday, the President will welcome Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, the topic of the meeting being the official announcement of the elections.
After the pre-election period officially begins, there will be two changes to the government plan.
The first change was that of government representative Yanis Oikonomo, who was replaced by Agis Shchertsos. The second change is that of Interior Minister Magis Voridis, who is expected to be appointed as a temporary minister in charge of holding elections on May 21.
Who is Calliope Spanu?
Kalliopi Spanou is Professor of Administrative Science at the Department of Political Science and Public Administration at the University of Athens. He studied public law and political science and did post-graduate studies (University de Picardy) in France (DEA Science Administration), where he obtained a Doctorate’Etat in Political Science specializing in Administrative Science (Honours). During his studies he received scholarships from the Stassinopoulos Foundation and the Ministry of National Economy (NATO). His thesis was awarded a publication grant by the French government.
He has been teaching at the PEDD department of EKPA since 1989, while he also taught at the University of Amiens, the University of Paris II and the University of Versailles. He was a CNRS/EIE fellow at the Center des Recherches Administratives, LSE’s Department of Government and Visiting Professor at Nuffield College (Oxford). In February – July 2016, he was invited as a “Schumann Fellow” at the Robert Schumann Center for Advanced Studies of the European University of Florence and in July 2018 as an invited researcher at the Fondation de la Maison des Sciences de l’Homme (Paris).
In May 2011 he was elected Ombudsman by the House Speakers’ Conference, leaving the post in October 2015. He also served as Assistant Ombudsman from 2003 to 2011.
He served as director of the State and Public Policy Graduate Program, research consultant at the National Center for Public Administration, and taught for several years at the National School of Public Administration. He has been a scientific advisor to the Ministry of Home Affairs, Public Administration and Decentralization and has participated in various expert committees. He works as a consultant with the OECD on public administration issues.
He was President of the Hellenic Society of Political Science and a member of the Steering Committee of the IIAS, the European General Administration Committee.
His research interests include issues of public administration and public policies (administration-citizen relations, administration-democracy, administrative reforms, environmental policies, social policy, administrative dimensions of Europeanization, etc.). He participates in European research networks and has completed three European projects as Scientific Manager for Greece and a series of research projects in Greece.
