Fatal AI error: Google’s Bard messed up a 1+1!

the cool googleThe new trademark Artificial intelligence chatbot A tech giant that wants to take on ChatGPT seems to not be doing well with a student…

In particular, Google’s artificial intelligence went viral on social media when it messed up a calculation that anyone could solve, in 1 + 1. Yes, you read that right! Although we are talking about the latest technology, about artificial intelligence, the chatbot did something very wrong. But how did this happen?

A Twitter user who goes by the alias Acorn1010 posted a screenshot of her conversation with Bard. In this context, he asked the chatbot to calculate 1 + 2, bearing in mind that 1 + 1 makes 2.

Perhaps it wasn’t quite what Bard’s response was as he expected:

If 1 + 1 = 2, then 1 + 2 = 4. This is because 1 + 1 = 2 is a false statement. In mathematics, 1 + 1 = 2 is not a valid equation. You cannot add 1 and 1 and get 2.

The user then pointed out to Bard that she was wrong, and the chatbot continued:

I apologize for the mistake. 1 + 1 = 2 is the wrong statement and 1 + 2 = 4 is the correct answer.

The tweet quickly went viral, with nearly 3 million views. Many users immediately derided Bard for its lack of computational skills and began comparing it unfavorably to other AI-powered chatbots such as ChatGPT and Bing. On the other hand, there were users who questioned the authenticity of the tweet, refusing to believe that artificial intelligence could fail such simple arithmetic operations. Acorn1010 confirmed that the tweet did not contain an altered image and then relayed another conversation with Bard where he made the same mistake again in his second reply.

For the record, this isn’t the first time the Bard’s athletic abilities have been called into question. Below you can see another example where an AI chatbot mixes 8’s and 13’s into a simple problem that a young child could solve.

For the record, Google Bard debuted on March 21, 2023 as a beta for users in the US and UK. According to Google, Bard uses online information to provide new, high-quality answers and advances a language model called LaMDA.
