PASOK’s Agriculture Development and Food Department and the party’s KTE MPs in charge of rural development, Manolis Sanaris and Christina Starakas, have come together to condemn the government’s agricultural policy with their joint statement. European Commission on OPECPE for mismanagement, Nikos Androlakis previously attacked Lefteris Avgenakis for the same issue.
In particular, as PASOK states, “in March 2024, the European Commission fined our country 283 million euros for poor management of agricultural subsidies by OPEKEPE for the periods 2020, 2021 and 2022”.
“In April 2024, in its new report, the European Commission puts OPEKEPE under 12-month monitoring, the functioning of the organization and its personnel, the quality and legality of payments, the adherence to European regulations and the clear separation of activities between the Ministry of Rural Development and Food and the payment system,” he said. He added.
And he underlines that “2023, the first year of implementation of the new CAP designed by the government of Mr. Mitsotakis, will be the worst paying year for the agricultural world since the implementation of the Common Agricultural Policy in our country.”
Lead conflict with “heavy” dialogues and characterizations
“Holy Week’s ‘cut-off’ payments have confirmed in the most emphatic way the government’s inability to fairly and transparently distribute the support Greek farmers need. What OPEKEPE has paid, how many producers have paid, what amounts haven’t been paid and how many producers have been linked to aid and environmental programs, last December and last paid “We never found out. Also, the 2022 payments are still pending,” PASOK officials noted.
The announcement stressed that “the fact of the European Union’s monitoring of OPEKEPE makes our country the first European country to enter the European supervision of the agricultural support system”, while “however, the big losers are the government of mismanagement and our farmers, who collect much less money than they deserve, They see their income dwindling every day.”
As relevant leaders of PASOK say, “The new democratic government can enjoy the ‘wins’ of this development because it has amply demonstrated that it champions us forever!” First country in accuracy, second in private health expenditure, second lowest in purchasing power and with unprecedented confidence in the rule of law.”
Androulakis: If you can’t, resign
Nikos Androulakis from Anogia launched an attack on the government and Lefteris Avgenakis (9/5), insisting that OPEKEPE came under the supervision of the European Union.
“What does Mr. Avgenakis say about the subsidies? ‘It’s not my fault, the EU’.” He said.
Avgenakis: You are the leader of mini PASOK
Rural Development and Food Minister Lefteris Avgenakis responded to Nikos Androulakis who commented on the PASOK President’s statements about OPEKEPE with an aggressive post on social media.
“The leader of ‘mini PASOK’, Mr. N. Androlakis, does not listen, does not listen, does not learn. Or is he acting out all of the above to weave a story of failure for the NT government and me personally,” he says characteristically.
And he argues, “Mr. Androulakis’s obsession with OPKECAP is strange, at a time when, under its new administration, it is taking significant steps to recover from past mistakes. A past characterized by opacity and mismanagement, as expected, elements the EU controls”.
Chairman of “Minibasok”, Mr. N. Andrologis, hears not, listens not, learns not. Or is he fabricating all of the above to weave a story of failure for the NT government and me personally?

— Lefteris Avgenakis (@l_avgenakis) May 10, 2024
“He has not learned since the last time he publicly blamed OPEKEPE and his country and the organization was denied a payment of 785 million euros before Easter”, Mr. Avgenakis recommends Nikos Androulakis “for his own protection”. Instead of touring the hills of Crete and having a sterile protest at OPEKEPE’s payments, let him ask the farmers and breeders about the quality of the payments.”
“Unfortunately for his constituents, Mr. N. Androlakis does not wear the national jersey. He is happy to face the problem of oversight of the OPEKEPE community, while he does not say a word, he does not gather his MEPs who voted against the CAP changes. His hypocrisy knows no bounds,” notes the Minister of Rural Development. .
Raising the tone even further, he adds that Nikos Androulakis “thinks he can stir the stagnant waters and reverse PASOK’s vote decline by invoking Andreas Papandreou, the ‘Greet Greet’ and ‘incense’ of another era.” .
“His opponent is not Nteo, Sirisena, Kassalaki or anyone else. His opponent is divorce with logic, reality and honesty.
Basok: How can a failed minister stay in office?
PASOK responded to the Minister of Rural Development, characteristically stating: “On behalf of Mr. Avgenakis we put aside characteristics and ask a very simple question: how can a failed minister remain in his position in 2023. He is the first year of the implementation of the new KAP. Designed by the incumbent government – have farmers and ranchers received less money since the inception of the Common Agricultural Policy in our country?’
Harilao Trikopi mentions that Mr. Avgenakis has the audacity to appear as the ‘cleaner’ of OPEKEPE, at a time when the European Commission, for the first time, places the organization under European supervision due to serious irregularities. Operation, personnel, quality and legality of payments, compliance with European regulations and the Ministry of Rural Development and Food and Clear separation of functions between payment system”.
“In March 2024, the European Commission fined our country 283 million euros for poor management of agricultural subsidies by OPEKEPE in 2020, 2021 and 2022. Under the new democratic governments, that is.”
“If Mr. Avgenakis can’t fulfill his duties, let him stop the jokes and go home,” exclaims PASOK.
