Olympiacos’ historic match against Fiorentina is approaching, and Daniel Pontense has explained to SPORT24 what the red and whites need to do ahead of the big match.
The big day is approaching. On Wednesday (5/29, 22:00, COSMOTE SPORT 1HD, MEGA, LIVE SPORT24), Olympiacos faces Fiorentina in the Conference League final at the OPAP Arena.
One of the team’s stars this year, Daniel Pontense, spoke to SPORT24 as part of the red and white team’s media day. He described how important the final match was, and also referred to his wonderful goal against Panathinaikos.
You’ve played big games, but this is special, right?
“Yes, it’s completely different, it’s a European final, 90 minutes, we don’t have three points, we don’t have next week or next month. We have to finish in 90 minutes, and give everything we have against any team.” “A good team, but we must be confident and do everything we can to win.”
Did you imagine this moment with Olympiacos?
“To be honest, I didn’t think about it, because in 100 years we won’t have a final. It was difficult. We thought we could do something good. We’ve done it before, like against Milan or Arsenal.” “Getting to the final is something else, it will be in our minds forever, and if we win it will be unbelievable.”
You played at the highest level. Which match do you think is more difficult, the match against Manchester City or the final match against Fiorentina?
“I played great matches, with City it wasn’t very nice because you’re constantly chasing the ball and that’s difficult. Against Chelsea for example, you can enjoy it more.”
“I think Fiorentina is not playing like Manchester City, and I think we will play with enthusiasm. It’s 90 minutes. It’s difficult. Everyone will pay attention, but we have to make an extra effort.”
You scored a great goal against Panathinaikos, do you dream of scoring the same way against Fiorentina?
“I think they saw the goal, if not the game, and they will be ready for it. But if the moment comes, I will try to find out whether they are ready or not.”
What will be your thoughts before the match?
“I will prepare, as always, of course it is a final, something completely different, but in the end it is another match, another day in our lives and we have to do the same things.
Because we’re here, because we do good things. “We have to be calm, we have to bring the quality we have to the field and play like we have done almost all season.”
“Certified social media geek. Lifelong coffee aficionado. Passionate food buff.”
