Evros is on alert for a mid-afternoon fire north of Cornofolia. Firefighters are trying to bring it under control before daylight.
The fire broke out shortly before 19:00 in a sparsely vegetated area north of Kornofolia in Evros. Fire burns low vegetation in a ditch. The 7th Special Forest Operations Division (EMODE), has 32 firefighters, including 8 vehicles and a helicopter.
According to the fire service, there are some scattered fires and the picture of the fire so far is good.
It may be recalled that 50 agroforestry fires have broken out in the last twenty-four hours across the country. According to the fire department, of these, 41 people were directly dealt with and in their initial stages, the fire brigade is still dealing with 9 people.
Local investigation offices and units of the Directorate for Combating Violent Crimes (DAEE) are investigating the cause of the fire.
The Fire Department urges all citizens to be especially vigilant and to follow the instructions of competent authorities faithfully for their own safety in the event of a fire.
