For the third day in a row, firefighters across the country had to deal with multiple fires.
Water drops from firefighting planes in Rhodes resumed shortly after a temporary halt due to thick smoke that made the pilots’ work difficult.
Meanwhile, ground firefighting efforts continue at all four ends of the island.
The situation is now dire and legitimate concerns are being expressed about the scale of the disaster.

Precautionary evacuation at the archaeological site at Kamiros
Due to the development of the forest fire in central Rhodes, the Dodecanese Ancient Ephorate has carried out a precautionary evacuation of visitors and workers from the archaeological site of Kamiros, today, Wednesday 19 July 2023, until the end of the site’s opening hours (20:00).
According to APE-MPE, the Dodecanese Civil Protection Coordination Group is currently meeting at the Apollon Fire Station to take measures to deal with and recover from the effects of the forest fire.
For the hospitality of the afflicted
The municipality has announced that the air-conditioned areas are fully ready to host the public for those who have left the villages of Dimilia, Salako and Eleusa due to precautionary measures.
As announced tomorrow morning also, 7 more fire tenders will douse the island to put out the fire.
