The border guard who was shot at Evros was saved by two millimeters – the chance of a gunshot was high
It all happened on Saturday afternoon, when the border guard and three of his colleagues were patrolling the Sofli Evros area. During an operation to prevent the entry of migrants from Turkey, they were fired upon from the Turkish side. As a result, a 56-year-old border guard was injured.
The man was rushed to hospital with abdominal injuries. Speaking to The Open, doctors who operated on him said the 56-year-old was lucky because if the bullet had gone 2 millimeters lower, the situation would have been much more difficult as he could have lost his small intestine.
Investigations into the shooting are ongoing
Investigations into the shooting are in full progress and, as iefimerida.gr writes, the Turkish authorities have been informed from the first moment so that they can conduct an appropriate investigation.
In this context, correspondence has been exchanged between the two parties to see if the person or persons who fired the shots could be identified.
Most of the circumstances that ELAS investigates are that the footage from the Turkish side is from a migrant smuggler.
