Flood in Thessaly: Fargadona camp area

Bad Weather Daniel left a lot of trouble and disaster in its wake. One of the affected areas is Fargadona, however, this is not the first time that natural phenomena such as the floods in Thessaly have been affected. A few years ago, a massive earthquake struck and sent many families into shipping containers.

Now earthquake victims are affected by floods, and a significant part of Keramidi, Piniada and Fargadona are uninhabitable.

Flood victims were taken to hotels in Trikala after their properties were destroyed, but were asked to vacate.

For this reason, flood victims were moved from the Trikala hotels to a camp in the village of Chrysanos near Fargadona. A makeshift camp with 45 tents has been set up there, near a football field, housing about 150 people, including the elderly and young children.

These people face humidity, cool evenings and many pests maintained by the climate and conditions. Among them are those who have lost their jobs, houses and stables.

Nevertheless, the question remains. From Monday, when the new weather is expected to worsen, these people should not be transferred to hotels or houses rented by the Civil Defense for temporary accommodation.

Where will the victims be taken?

According to trikalanews.gr, a few days ago the government took steps to evacuate the Koutsochero refugee settlement.

Nevertheless, although the municipality of Fargatonas and the residents do not recognize this as a solution, it does not seem to change anything for the better. This can be seen from the fact that teams have already entered to change, clean and disinfect the mattresses in Koutzosero. So apparently that’s the plan. With the first drop of rain, the victims were to be taken to Coutzosero.
