The previous eruption ended recently after the volcano spewed fountains of molten rock for about eight weeks. However, authorities have warned that there is a risk of continued volcanic activity, as expert studies have shown a concentration of magma underground.
The Icelandic Meteorological Authority said, “An explosion began near Sudhnokjjar, north of Grindavik.”
the Impressive shotsThese events, which were broadcast live, highlight the challenges facing the island, which has a population of about 400,000 people, as scientists estimate that volcanic eruptions will continue in the Reykjanes region for decades, if not centuries. On this peninsula they live approx 30,000 people. The volcano’s previous activity closed major roads, caused problems with heating infrastructure, and even destroyed some homes in the fishing village of Grindavik, where few residents have returned.
