The offer is available for Affinity Photo, Affinity Designer, and Affinity Publisher starting today on Mac, Windows PC, and iPad.
Affinity uses a one-time pricing model that has earned it a loyal following among content creators tired of paying for recurring subscriptions. Prices start at $69.99 for individual Affinity Office apps or $164.99 for the entire suite, with a special offer giving customers 50% off all licenses going forward.
The discount, along with the six-month free trial, is likely intended to allay concerns that Affinity would change its pricing model after it was acquired by Canva earlier this year. “We’re saying try everything and pay nothing because we understand that switching can be a big step, especially for busy professionals,” said Ashley Hewson, Affinity’s CEO. “Anyone who takes advantage of this offer has absolutely no obligation to move forward with a purchase.”
In an interview in DecryptOn TheVerge podcast, Canva CEO Melanie Perkins declined to describe her offering as a full replacement for Adobe Creative Cloud. However, she said the design app market “has been a bit of a one-horse race, and I don’t think that’s for anyone… I think being able to have a different alternative in the market for professional designers is important.” It benefits everyone.
