The new watches provide runners with “advanced training metrics” and health statistics such as heart rate variability (HRV), total sleep quality and training load.
The Forerunner 265 Series comes in two sizes, Forerunner 265S (42mm) and Forerunner 265 (46mm). The 265S offers up to 24 hours of battery life in GPS mode and up to 15 days in smartwatch mode. The 265 provides up to 20 hours of GPS use and 13 days of smartwatch use. Both watches have Pulse Ox sensors, Body Battery monitoring, sleep and stress monitoring, menstrual cycle monitoring, and pregnancy monitoring. In addition, they track your V02 max (the maximum amount of oxygen you can consume per minute based on your weight), performance status, and other metrics. Finally, it offers two options for adaptive training: suggested daily workouts by entering information about upcoming races and watching a series of videos from Garmin coaches.
Meanwhile, the Forerunner 965 is the higher-end model with a 1.4-inch AMOLED display, up to 31 hours of battery life (in GPS mode) and up to 23 days in smartwatch mode. In addition to carrying all the features of the cheaper model, it records additional performance metrics such as load ratio (the relationship between an athlete’s training load and what they can handle), real-time endurance information to manage exercise levels, and detailed climb metrics (including gradient increment, distance, and elevation). The watch also includes built-in maps and more storage for music.
The Forerunner 965 will cost $600 when it goes on sale in “late March.” The Forerunner 265 is available starting today for $450.
