German arms maker Rheinmetall is preparing armored fighting vehicles (AACs) for delivery to Ukraine and announced on Tuesday that it has received an order for 20 more Marders from the German Defense Ministry. The industry said it will be delivered to Kiev by the end of July.
Forty such vehicles have already been delivered, twenty of them from Rheinmetall, a similar number from German Army stocks. The industry offers another 60, but they will first have to be refurbished and re-equipped.
Marders, TOMAs of the German Army since the 1970s, have been gradually replaced by the more modern Puma type. Rheinmetall is preparing such decommissioned vehicles so that they can be used on the front line in Ukraine. The same company produces heavy Leopard tanks, dozens of which are now on the battlefield.
Moreover, delivery of the first batch of 10,000 ammunition 35mm Gibbards, armored vehicles with twin anti-aircraft and radar guns, is expected at the end of July. Rheinmetall received an order for 300,000 rounds of ammunition.
