God of War TV Series Officially Comes to Amazon Prime Video – Amazon

Amazon’s rumored TV adaptation of God of War is a reality.

Deadline reported in March that Amazon was in talks to produce a series about the popular video game franchise for Prime Video, and today Amazon announced that the series is coming to the service.

Based on the summary shared by LimitIt looks like the series will follow a similar story to Sony’s excellent 2018 God of War reboot:

The series revolves around Kratos, the god of war, who, after being expelled from his bloody past in ancient Greece, hangs his weapons forever in the Norse kingdom of Midgard. When his beloved wife dies, Kratos embarks on a perilous journey with his estranged son to scatter her ashes from the highest peak – his wife’s last wish. Kratos soon realizes that his journey is an epic quest that will test the bonds between father and son and force him to battle new gods and monsters for the fate of the world.

The series will be live-action, according to a statement from Sony Pictures Television Studios President Kathryn Pope, but there’s no word on the cast. One possibility is the return of Christopher Judge, who just won an award Game award For his performance as Kratos in God of War Ragnarök. The premiere of the series is still unknown when it will take place, but we do know that it will be launched from day one in hundreds of countries.

Cory Barlog, director of the 2018 God of War film and creative director of Ragnarök, is one of the executive producers for the new series. He hinted at his participation in a mysterious tweet on Wednesday, saying, “It will be some time before we know more about the series.

The TV adaptation of God of War is the latest in a huge line of PlayStation adaptations that Sony has in the works. Perhaps his biggest transfer deal is imminent The Last of Us from HBO, which premieres January 15th and recently got a new trailer. Other video game-based content coming to the small and big screen next year includes Twisted Metal on Peacock, the Gran Turismo movie in August 2023, and the Netflix TV series Horizon Zero Dawn.
