Sakis Anastasiades is the man who discovered Apostolos Apostolopoulos, who yesterday made his European debut for Olympiacos. Speaking to Metropolis 95.5 and the Trito Emicrono programme, the experienced coach said the young full-back has great chances to compete in the big derby with PAOK in Toumba.
The coach clearly saw something to use in such a crucial match. By the same logic when we started four years ago at Panserikos, we saw something and gave him the opportunity to make his debut for the first team at the age of 16. PAOK and Olympiacos wanted him, but his family played a role in the final decision. In the morning we talked together and I congratulated him. What really impressed me was the drive and temperament he had and the fact that despite the danger of the race he had no fear, this was evident from his first race. This kid actually played in Panserikos by chance. He was in the academy and was in the first team at the time in the third national team and was having roster difficulties and I asked to see him in a training session. From the first moment I was attracted to him and immediately told him that he would stay in the first team. He had tremendous maturity for his age. On his first appearance with the Panserikos first team, I pointed out that I was not doing him a favor, but because he deserved it, I was giving him the chance to get a starting shirt. There is a high possibility that he will also play in the big derby with PAOK in Toumba.
