A. Tsipras rationalized in parliament yesterday – or thought he was rationalizing – that “Syriza was looking after the Greek mafia, while under the new democracy the Greek mafia is running the EYP”.
He said this while the front pages of the Sunday newspapers were published.
So, when Tsipras was prime minister, he knew on the front page of the newspaper “TO BIMA” that EYP was monitoring three of his ministers. In fact, he writes their names in bold letters too. What do you think? How does he treat his three accomplices under surveillance as members of the Greek Mafia?
As I am an honest person I will take the best explanation for him. He was not aware of the particular home page and his colleagues did not inform him about it. Carelessness is better than cynicism.
The surveillance case seems to be escaping the control of Syriza and the “apocalyptic” press for some time now. With the turn this case is taking, it is likely to create problems for him in the end, instead of benefiting him politically, as the EYP has been proven to track political figures in his days.
However, it is only certain that the entire case exposes the country’s prestige abroad, not because of the surveillance, but because it is being made public en masse. Within the framework of existing practices, monitoring is carried out by competent services in all democracies.
What distinguishes an active state from a failed state is that no one knows who is being monitored in the former state. Confidentiality is respected. So its secret services, because they are trusted, participate in the transnational exchange of sensitive information.
Instead, the secret services that have turned from the “deep throat” they hide in their lines to the “filter” are essentially singled out as unreliable because they do not provide the necessary security in the management of basic information.
A. Tsipras once again set aside the national interest in an attempt to damage the new democracy. He does not understand that Greece, because of known threats, should have an effective EYP primarily above party rivalries. Even in his days the EYP monitored those who were deemed necessary to monitor.
At the time, New Democracy did not raise the issue, although the feud between the leading ministers of the Sirisena government, Mr. Kotsias and Mr. Kammenos, fueled party violence. Today, after the front page of the “TO VIMA” newspaper, SYRIZA has seen ups and downs.
What does A. Tsipras have to say? How were all three of his ministers mobsters, and that’s why he was watching them? This particular topic came at a bad time for Syriza, as it exposed its leader and led the most apologetic government to go on the counter-attack.
PS election, spring and fall.
