Authy, a popular two-factor authentication (2FA) app, was designed to enhance security when logging into various services. Recently, the app stopped supporting all desktop platforms, including Windows and Mac, with a focus on further development on iPhone and Android apps.
in advertisement Twilio confirmed the breach in its statement, saying it was limited in scope. Without disclosing the exact number of users affected, the company said the breach only involved phone numbers.
Twilio said there was no indication that the attackers had access to other systems or sensitive company data. However, he warned Authy users to be careful, as malicious users could use stolen phone numbers for phishing and spear-phishing attacks.
The company said the breach was through an “unauthorized access point.” Twilio has now disabled the ability to make unauthenticated requests and said it has taken steps to secure that specific access point.
The company recommends that users update their iOS app to the latest version available on the App Store. Additionally, it urges users who are having difficulty accessing their Authy account to contact the support team immediately.
Although Twilio did not disclose the exact number of users affected, TechCrunch States Hackers claim to have stolen 33 million phone numbers.
