Michalis Michael, who was appointed yesterday by the President as a member of the Public Service Commission, has submitted his resignation to the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, through a letter.

The government spokesperson, Konstantinos Letempiotis, told KYPE that the president has agreed to resign and will proceed as soon as possible to appoint another person.

It is noteworthy that after announcing the appointment of Mr. Michael as a member of the EDY, which means an evaluation on his part of the appointments of other people in public services, posts and comments appeared on social media indicating the validity of his writing. Academic qualifications and their possible relationship to university institutions abroad.

At the same time the chief, after the noise of the last twenty-four hours, demanded to verify the degrees of which Mr. Michael is said to be the holder.

Mr. Michael’s message:

Dear Mr. President, With this letter I would like to tender my resignation as a member of the Public Service Commission.

The reasons for my resignation are purely out of respect for your person and the ultimate goal of your political protection. A lot of non-existent and incorrect things have been written against me, affecting my professional qualifications and career. Unfortunately, they left me with no choice but to quit.

I reserve all my legal rights. Be sure that I will soon call a press conference with the ultimate goal of returning the truth to my person and at the same time justifying your choice. I wish you a happy resurrection and a good continuation in the hard work you are doing.

Akal said in a statement:

The selection of Mr. Michaelakis Michael for the position of a member of the Public Service Commission develops into a Giannaki Giannaki-style fiasco.

The responsibility of President Christodoulides, who chose him, is enormous. Despite his pre-election promises to the contrary, the criteria and procedures by which Mr. Christodoulides selects people leave him dangerously exposed.

Mr. Christodoulides continues to fall below the level he set during the pre-election period.”
