How much does the air conditioner burn – the right temperature we should set it to

With the temperature hovering around 40C, and even 44-45 in some places, one way to combat the sweltering heat and scorching heat is to air conditioner. However, many use it in moderation because they fear…the cold that may come with receiving their electric bills.

Dimitris Kontosias, President of the Hellenic Refrigeration Federation, reported on July 18, at a star, that consumption in terms of money and electricity depends on both age and the air conditioning itself. So, on average, an air conditioner can “burn” from 0.10 to 0.15 € / hour, so if we have an air conditioner running 24 hours, the daily cost can be 3.6 €.

The correct operating temperature of the air conditioner

At another point in his remarks, Dimitris Kontosias also spoke about the correct temperature at which the air conditioner should operate, stressing that “at best, they lower the temperature from 12 to 14 degrees”.

Characteristically, he said, “Considering this fact, when we are talking about summer temperatures of 35 and 36 degrees Celsius, personally in my house I have not set the air conditioning below 26 degrees. Otherwise, all we will do is pay for electricity and nothing else, because machines cannot lower the temperatures any lower. Let’s put it at 24 degrees. Once the air conditioning temperature reaches 26 degrees Celsius, maintenance can be done in space and work very economically. If we set it at 20 degrees, the outdoor unit will not stop It never stops working, which results in a lot of energy consumption.”

Regarding hot days, the head of the Greek Refrigeration Federation said about air conditioners: “In these hot days, it is preferable to have them open all the time, because if we turn on the air conditioning for an hour and turn it off for a while, it will consume much more. It is better to have 8 to 10 hours of continuous operation, even for 24 consecutive hours, like a refrigerator that is never switched off and always at 26 degrees Celsius. After that, the consumption will be very low and the room temperature will be appropriate.”
