How to tell if someone is lying to you – the lawyer offers three simple tips

Do you sometimes feel that the people you deal with are not honest and lie to you? According to one lawyer, there is a simple way to find out.

The lawyer has revealed the three tricks he uses in the courtroom to “catch” someone when they’re lying, which anyone can use if they think a family member or friend isn’t telling the truth.

Jefferson Fisher, from the US, shared his tips on how to deal with lying under oath. In fact, he also uses it in his daily life, to understand if his children have really brushed their teeth.

How should you act if you think someone is lying to you:

FirstlyHe argues that what one should do is remain silent for 10 seconds after someone gives an unfair answer, repeat the lie to them, and give them a chance to “correct themselves”.

When Jefferson hears something he believes or knows is a lie, he first “answers nothing” and remains silent for 10 to 15 seconds.

“I seem to process it, but 99.9% of the time they can’t stand the silence, it scares them, telling them I don’t… take it,” she said.

“That’s what they do — without me saying anything, they slowly begin to back away from their lie.”

secondlyJefferson recommends repeating their lie to them. For example, “So you didn’t see the red car?” “I give them the choice – do you want to get away from it or do you want to come back?” he said.

“The answer I get is, ‘No, but I might be wrong,’ and when they say I might be wrong, they come back.”

endJefferson allows the individual to “self-correct”. “I’ll say something like, ‘If you haven’t seen that red car, that’s okay.'” In other words, that lie I just told didn’t go well for you, so let’s try again.

“Nine times out of ten what they say at the beginning is not at all what I get at the end.”

He joked that these techniques are useful even when he asks his children if they have brushed their teeth.
